As perfume manufacturers we know perfectly the incredible work of a perfumer. At Vismaressence, we have great perfumers who create essences with the best raw materials that subsequently become our perfumes.

Everyone knows what perfume is, however, not everyone knows how perfume is created. Each perfume implies a lot of work and research, carried out by perfumers. At Vismaressence, we value very much the work of all our perfumers, so we want to let you know who perfumers are and how they create unique essences.

What is a perfumer?

A perfumer is responsible for preparing the essences that later become perfumes. These perfumers are also known as “noses”, this term is coined by the finesse they have to detect and differentiate scents and the ability to know how to combine them to create unique fragrances.

Perfumers know perfectly the olfactory compositions and the aesthetics of fragrances and they use these concepts to elaborate the unique essences of perfumes.

Olfactory memory is a fundamental part of a perfumer’s work, since he needs to remember many olfactory notes.

The work of a perfumer

A perfumer is able to differentiate and recognize about 5,000 different scents, but not only that, he also has to be able to combine the scents in a harmonious way to create a great fragrance as a final result.

A perfume is not just a simple combination of scents: there has to be an aromatic harmony.

The best perfumers are able to convey sensations with their creations.

How do you create a fragrance?

There are three essential parts to consider when creating a perfume, good raw materials, essential oils and a good fixative.

  1. Raw materials

Raw materials are very important when we create a perfume. High quality raw materials will result in a high quality perfume, of a better quality than the rest.

Raw materials are obtained from plant and flower essences that are extracted from the leaves and flowers of these plants.

Some of these essences are so special that they are obtained only when the plant comes into contact with water.

  1. Essential oils

These essential oils are obtained from vegetables and, just like raw materials, we obtain them from plants and flowers.

Other oils need different processes and are obtained by distillation and removal of fat from the element. Take into account that some of these essences are not simply obtained from contact with water; other processes are necessary.

  1. Fixative

Fixatives act as perfume preservatives along with alcohol.
